All along the coastline of Ninilchik, you get a
breathtaking view of the mountains in the
Alaska Range across Cook Inlet. Two of the
mountains in this range have erupted in the
past. Mount Redoubt which erupted in 1989, and
Mount St Augustine which erupted in 1986.
Ninilchik is one of the largest settlements of
Russians in Alaska. The area was originally
settled by Russians in the early 1800's.
Ninilchik's big draw in the
summer is fishing. Nearby Deep Creek draws
anglers from all over for salmon, halibut, and
steelhead trout.
Ninilchik is a proud
community that hosts the "Kenai Peninsula
State Fair". Always held the 3rd weekend
in August, it's also known as "Alaska's Biggest
Little Fair". For more information about "The
Fair" please call (907) 567-3670. |
